The White Knife

  • Birds of prey are one of my favourite subjects to draw and paint. Hawks are particularly graceful and seemingly weightless in flight and their dynamic movements mean an endless supply of compositions for an artist. This particular bird is a white-coloured Red Tailed Hawk, a mutation within the species which is both uncommon and visually striking. I painted this during the worst months of lock-down, a welcome distraction during a depressive episode I think many of us experienced during the pandemic.
